Some Weirdo Thoughts I Have / by Natalie Kim

Hello, thank you for visiting this site. I'm the filmmaker, Natalie Kim and I'm sitting on a couch in Upstate, New York.

I'm on a self-imposed break in nature for a stint. Not anything fancy, just a cool little AirBNB place.

Basically if I don't go into nature every so often I go mental.

I want this post to be useful for you, the reader. Most people use blogs to write about promoting themselves and talk about their project.

This idea is stolen from James Altucher a wacky, Jewy guy who I hope to be friends with some day. Buy his book here.

Someone tried to tell me that the only way to MAKE IT IN THIS BUSINESS was to AUDITION WELL. I scratched my head. I looked at my wall with pictures of Ricky Gervais, Mindy Kaling, Amy Pohler and Tina Fey. I don't believe any of them audition for ANYTHING.

But I allowed this misinformation to seep in to my consciousness and believed that I had to go outside of myself for the answer. I had to look a certain way, dress a certain way, do my hair a certain way.

THE MESSAGE I GOT WAS: You need to be you but totally different.

This, of course is bullshit.

I needed to get away from that kind of thinking, so here I am, upstate in nature.

Last night I was interviewed for a podcast by Kevin Chung, a guy who interviews a lot of creative people.

He asked me: What's the most important thing an actor can do to get started?

Choose yourself because there are no gatekeepers.
